5 Tips For Cleaning Out Your Closet
I think we can all relate to the pain of searching and searching through our dressers for that ONE shirt you want to wear and are unable to find anything among the endless shirts that you’ve been holding onto since you were in high school. OK, I may have exaggerated a little bit, but you get my point. There comes a time when cleaning out your closet is so necessary! By putting it into practice a few times a year, you will be so much happier with how organized your closet / drawers are.
Going through your clothes and getting rid of items you never wear is so liberating and it’s always a great idea to donate your clothes to your local salvation army or goodwill. Tackling this closet clean-out can be quite the project, so here are some tips to make it as efficient and painless as possible!
If you haven’t worn it in the last year, pitch it - so self explanatory but this can be SO HARD. For real though, if you haven’t worn that shirt once in the last year, it needs to go. Only keep the things that you feel your absolute best in and chances are, if you haven’t worn it in a year, that’s NOT it.
Separate seasonal clothes - So this one typically goes by personal preference, but I think its a must. Separate your clothes by summer and winter and switch them throughout the year. Especially if you have limited space in your closet / dresser, this allows you to separate your wardrobe and makes it easier to manage day to day. This tip is by far the one I use the most, because it allows you to make a clean switch of your seasonal clothes each year.
Tubs tubs and more tubs - Ok, so I think i’ve discovered that when you get excited about buying tubs or any the organization tool, you’re officially an adult. haha But SERIOUSLY! Tubs make your life so much easier. Especially referring to tip#2, if you separate your seasonal clothes, you’re going to want storage tubs.
Poshmark is pretty cool - If you are anything like me, you embarrassingly find a clothing item you bough three years ago and it still has all the tags on it. YIIIKES. Well, that’s where Poshmark comes in handy. Any items that I have that are nicer brands or great condition that I want to sell, I post on Poshmark. Super easy to buy and sell clothing on this app.
Take the project in sections - The worst thing you can do is pull out all your clothes and then give up once you have piles and piles of clothes scattered all over the floor. I’m not speaking from experience here at all…. ;) Take the project of going through your clothes drawer by drawer and section by section. It makes it much easier to accomplish the project and if you have to stop in the middle - no worries! At least you don’t have clothes all over your floor!
The best part of cleaning out your closet is finding those gems that you forgot you had! When I recently went through my closet, I found so many sweaters I loved and I felt like I had gone shopping all over again. Cleaning out your clothes is not the easiest task but I hope with these tips you are able to tackle the project!
